The hard reality for many people in the USA is that income inequality means so many have to work two or three jobs in order to maintain a roof over their heads and sufficient food for their families. Under such circumstances, when failure means homelessness and untreated illness, any attempt at “balance” is impossible. The USA is a fundamentally neurotic and unbalanced society; expecting individuals to compensate is in many cases wildly unrealistic. And it’s difficult to “be present” when you’re an exhausted single parent barely able to function and getting screamed at by an abusive boss while your children are at home afraid and hungry. These are the harsh realities conveniently ignored by fatuous new age “spiritualists.”
