The human brain is a pattern-recognition machine, like all brains. As such, we humans perpetually impose patterns when in reality there are none. This is why children see shapes in clouds and why in former times people saw shapes in the stars. It's why people see the face of Jesus on toasted bread. When presented with a simple phenomenon, people tend to overthink in search of an explanation. This is why the chattering classes over-explained Trump, Brexit, and all other populist phenomenon. In reality, Trump, Brexit, et al occurred (and will continue to occur) because most people are stupid. But we hate that explanation - it seems too obvious and too painful. So we imagine all kinds of bizarre "explanations" - the same is true of people who believe in invisible magical pixies, QAnon cultists, and all the rest. Most human beliefs are the consequence of being unable to accept reality and favoring baroque pseudo-explanations. Trump was an infantile moron; this explains 100% of his entire life. No other explanation is required. But doubtless people will keep concocting ever-less-plausible "explanations" in order to avoid having to confront this very basic, yet true, reality.
