The most depressing thing of all is Western passivity in the face of clear Russian intentions. We've provided Ukraine with a lot of promises but very little in the way of worthwhile support. Their air defenses are nearly exhausted (as I've been warning for months) but we're still refusing to send fighter jets. Putin & his cronies continue to claim Russia is "fighting all of NATO" but NATO itself is paralyzed with fear - for no obvious reason at all. And so Russia may well succeed and exterminate Ukrainians because we in the West have failed to understand the existential nature of the threat to our own civilization.
