The news media knows ordinary people are frightened by complexity and truth, so simple fairytales are presented to sooth the sensibilities of ignorant self-indulgent Westerners. We have become child-like after eighty years of peace in Europe and endless infantile entertainments. And so fairytales for bedtime are all we can cope with now - fairytales in which the hero and the villain are obvious and in which there is no ambiguity. Fairytales for simple-minded complacent baby-people.
