The problem is that Trump supporters don't live in the real world. Because they are invariably low-IQ, emotionally inadequate and physically pathetic, they've sold themselves to someone who's just like them, only in Technicolor. Trumpies adore Trump because they look at him, an infantile moron, and in some part of their tiny brains is the vague notion that he validates them and wipes away their many failures. They have an emotional, not an intellectual, attachment to the orange imbecile, and mere facts have no purchase - not least because they lack the cognitive faculties necessary to understand those facts. Trump isn't the nadir of representative democracy: he's its apotheosis, the shining glory of an approach to governance that's utterly unfit for purpose. We should actually thank Trump for making the situation crystal-clear, but apparently most people still haven't understood what his presidency really tells us.
