The problem of information flows is going to be one of the greatest challenges we face in the coming decades. I wrote an article about it recently, to illustrate some of the issues involved. It's now abundantly clear that we humans are far too stupid and gullible for any society aspiring to any degree of civilization to adopt a laissez-faire attitude to information flows; yet it's also clear that it will be nearly impossible to stop intentional misuse and distortion of such flows. The future, alas, will be very bleak indeed - and even more polarized than today. Most people are simply too stupid and ignorant to realize they're being lied to, even when those lies are infantile and blatant.
