The problem of war occurs precisely because at least one faction is incapable or unwilling to compromise with others. This leaves only two options for everyone else: (i) capitulation, which most often results in large amounts of death, displacement, starvation, torture, etc. or (ii) resistance. We don't usually get to choose war, civil or otherwise; it's usually thrust upon us by infantile morons incapable of understanding any of the arguments correctly presented in Patrick's essay. These morons and their equally mindless followers invariably think they are being "smart" and "patriotic."
