The question we need to be asking is simply this: as nearly 43 million US voters are insufficiently intelligent to understand what Trump is doing to the nation they think they love, isn’t it time for a radical re-think? Trump is, after all, simply the consequence of representative democracy, as are all the Republican politicians who back him despite all the evident harm he’s doing to the USA across nearly every aspect of policy internal and external.
By any measure, representative democracy is totally unfit for purpose. We ought not to be fixating on the trivia of contemporary events but instead turning our thoughts toward what should come after the collapse of the present way of doing things, after the inevitable horrors, when people are searching for new ways to self-govern. Ways that won’t bring us right back to where we are today.
