How the next few days could unfold, thanks to persistent Western cowardice and weakness
Russia’s failing dictator Putin is about to declare that the parts of Ukraine still held by Russian forces are “really” part of Mother Russia, thanks to spurious referenda held at gunpoint and completed by means of falsified ballots. Where else but in Putin’s fascist regime would claimed results of 99% in favor be presented (with a sneer) as purported legitimization of a pathetically inadequate ploy?
Nevertheless, the West in all its spineless stupidity must now reckon with the danger that any further action by Ukraine to recover the land smashed by Russian rabble-in-uniform and any further attempt to rescue the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians who are being subject to rape, torture, mutilation, and murder on a daily basis, will be claimed by Putin as “an attack on Russia itself.” This would be Putin’s justification for the use of nuclear weapons — his desperate last resort as his shambolic military is incapable of defeating Ukraine on the battleground.
Were Western leaders less stupid and less craven, we’d already have made an unambiguous statement that any use of chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons by Russia — regardless of Russia’s endless denial of reality and its pretense that it’s…
