The US is beyond redemption, locked into simple-minded reflexive banalities that preclude any serious analysis of the problem. The very obvious fact is always avoided: every nation on Earth has people with grievances, people who fantasize about killing their boss, their spouse, a colleague, etc. But only in the USA are firearms easier to obtain than cigarettes, and so only in the USA do mass shootings occur every day. But hey, who cares, right? It helps the mass media keep the value of ad slots nice and high because audiences love sensation, and what - aside from a really photogenic aircraft disaster - is as good at providing empty sensation as yet another mass shooting? Ideally with dead children, because that will really push up the value of those ad slots.

Meanwhile, morons will trot out their trite "thoughts and prayers" even though they're actually not capable of thinking, and the NRA will continue to shill for the actually tiny gun industry (which only employs around 40,000 people nationwide - not even enough people to appear in employment statistics). And nothing whatsoever will ever change.
