The US "justice" system is an example of what is so profoundly wrong about the USA. Essentially a percentage of people are incarcerated (often for meaningless small crimes rather than for anything of importance) and subject to endless inhumane treatment while the rest of the nation crams McSlop down its throat while gawping at trash entertainments on high-def screens, oblivious to and uncaring about the horrors perpetrated out of sight.
We condemn old-world slavery, but we condone its modern-day counterpart. It's one of the many reasons why Europeans look at the USA and see clearly it is not a civilized nation.
