The USA has a uniquely dysfunctional system of governance that was always awful and has become increasingly awful over the decades. As everything is pay-to-play, and with absurd two-yearly election cycles for the House, US politicians are perpetually for sale. That makes it effortless for vermin like the Koch family to buy the influence they need. While it is clearly impossible to reform an entirely broken system we have to hope that our grandchildren see more clearly than we do that representative democracy, especially on US lines, is a very poor approach to governance in a world increasingly filled with complex global-scale problems.
