The USA has always been a pay-to-play nation (hence Mark Twain's comment more than a century ago that "America has the best government money can buy") and it's not really surprising that dupe-the-chumps continues to be a highly successful strategy. Trump and his crew of repellent vermin are merely the latest symptoms of the underlying systemic failures that permeate every aspect of US life. And as no one has any interest in addressing any of these problems, the likes of Trump will continue to dominate US politics in the years ahead.
