The Western fear of "escalation" is not only absurd, immoral, and incredibly stupid but also from a strategic perspective entirely self-harming. The very best way to resolve the conflict in Ukraine permanently would have been for NATO to exterminate all Russian military capacity last summer. This would have triggered the collapse of Russia and the result would have been half-a-dozen mini-nations, each ruled by a thuggish overlord focused on asset-stripping. This would remove any threat from the region for decades, if not permanently.
Moreover, as we have endless evidence of how nothing is safe from the pervasive corruption that Putin's kleptomaniac regime has fostered, it's probable that only 10% of Russia's nuclear arsenal still works. It costs a huge amount to maintain such systems, and we know that even their naval flagships are merely rotting hulks - so what chance any ICBM still functions? No Russian officer will obey an order that essentially will turn every Russian city into radioactive ash, especially if they suspect the FIRE button won't actually do anything except maybe detonate the rocket in its launcher.
Our mindless "don't attack Russia" policy merely proves that ordinary people vote for incompetent imbeciles who can't cope with any meaningful challenge or threat.
