There is, unfortunately, a common misapprehension about "emotional intelligence" and the other silly PC phrases presently fashionable. It is easy to mistake a lack of control over one's emotions as being "authentic" or "in touch with myself" and easy to mistake adequate self-regulation as "having no feelings." Thanks to the increasing number of people going through full gender transition, there is now accumulating quite significant amounts of data regarding the effects of the sex hormones (estrone, estradiol, estrione, testosterone) on mood and behavior, as well as on vitality, memory function, and physiology. Men who hormonally transition to become women frequently report feeling "out of control" and prone to formerly unknown mood swings, while women hormonally transitioning to become men frequently report the cessation of such mood swings. We must not, therefore, conflate vulnerability to emotional dynamics with "emotional intelligence."
