As we humans are the only species that lives predominantly in fantasy, we're endlessly susceptible to clinging to simplistic illusions and denying awkward complex reality. Your grandfather is a tragic figure but in Ukraine fortunately irrelevant. His counterparts in the West unfortunately are able to vote for blustering morons like the creature Trump and for national suicide like Brexit.
