This is sadly too true. When my children were small I had to kill a dog that was attempting to savage them. The owner was outraged! After all, the dog was his baby, his companion, his (untrained) emotional sustenance. At no time did he seem capable of grasping the idea that his lack of interest in training his animal led directly to its demise. A few years later I killed another dog that was savaging a terrified pregnant woman while its owner (this time the archetypal old biddy) stood by, chattering away about how her beloved pooch would never hurt anyone. Again, she seemed utterly incapable of making the jump between her internal fantasy-world and the reality right in front of her. Most dog owners shouldn’t be permitted to own a pet because they are totally clueless and irresponsible.
