This was all rather predictable. NATO's posture has been to dither and prevaricate while Putin's posture has been to do everything necessary to defeat Ukraine. Our pathetic non-response to Russian aggression (sanctions that never work, failure to send Ukraine meaningful weapons systems) has ensured that Putin's probability of ultimate victory is infinitely higher than it should have been. We trickle in tiny numbers of weapons systems while our journalists babble endlessly about how a handful of HIMARS (with only very short-range missiles...) and tanks that haven't even been sent will be "game changers." In reality we've always provided far too little, far too late, and the price has been paid in Ukrainian lives. This is shameful, and intensely stupid. Russia is an existential threat to Europe and needs to be crushed; instead, Putin will likely dominate Ukraine and then in a few years takes bites out of countries that are NATO members. This is something we could so easily have prevented had we not been so utterly spineless.
