Trump could literally eat a baby on TV and his supporters would continue to support him. That’s because a dull-eyed howling mob nearly 43 million strong thinks he’s a “smart and stable genius” and no amount of real-world evidence will persuade them otherwise. The Republican Party is merely pandering to the great mass of people who are too simple-minded to have even the vaguest grasp of reality. That’s where democracy gets us: the ignorant and foolish voting for the incompetent and mindless. Plato pointed all this out 2,500 years ago but apparently people still aren’t ready to listen.
