Unfortunately for the thesis contained within this fluff piece there is no distinction between “the human brain” and “the animal brain.” Evolution doesn’t permit the sudden appearance of massive discontinuities — how could it? Evolution is the process of gradual adaptation, building on what is already there, like a scaffold. That’s why we humans have more sophisticated language skills than our nearest relatives but our relatives the chimps, apes, etc. nevertheless have a great many of the skills we possess — our species merely extends those abilities a little further. Because we humans are… also animals. We didn’t just appear one afternoon because some invisible magical creature snapped its fingers.

The silly diagram showing direct connection between input and output in some small unspecified “animal brain” and a drunken wandering pathway in a larger “human brain” is beyond parody in its sheer awfulness. This article is precisely the kind of nonsense that leads ignorant people astray.
