Unfortunately, I rather agree with your analysis. The silly sensationalism of contemporary journalism totally fails to present a realistic picture, because editors know that their audience wants empty sensation, sound & fury signifying very little indeed. As you correctly point out, Ukraine is entirely dependent on the West, and the West is spineless, self-centered, flabby, and incapable of sustained resolve - not to mention the neofascist US Republican Party clearly eager to slash aid to Ukraine as payback for Zelensky's failure to manufacture evidence against Biden in the last US presidential election.
All in all, it's a bleak outlook for everyone and the future is clearly going to be a lot darker than the relatively stable peace we've had in the northern hemisphere since 1991.
