We humans are generally atrocious at correctly estimating risk. We tend to believe whatever nonsense sensation-creating journalists happen to be pushing, and fail entirely to assess real-world risk. This article repeats this mistake.

In reality, the "average US family" is most at risk from lifestyle-induced diseases. Obesity is a major killer of US citizens, because 86% are overweight and a terrifying 42% are obese. Add in smoking, total indolence, and a profoundly unhealthy nutrient-deficient calorie-rich diet and we have the perfect recipe for early death. Yet, because it's not sensationalized by journalists, no one cares.

Worrying about highly implausible Russian nuclear action against the continental USA is, in comparison, a total waste of everyone's time. And if the worst did come, hundreds of millions of US citizens would suddenly discover that no matter how many guns and cans of dried food you may have, you can't waddle your way through a real crisis.
