We live in a society that has reached levels of self-centeredness unseen in human history outside of the lives of the most powerful. Our entertainments feed us with entirely unhealthy notions of what "true love" is and we expect to be able to float through life without any effort and without having to face any challenges. If our absurd expectations aren't met, then we look for someone to blame - and the easiest person to blame is lying next to us in bed.

The infantilization of society is pernicious but it's almost impossible to mitigate unless one first recognizes the problem, and hardly anyone does. Saddest of all is the phenomenon of women who copy-paste a generic response to articles like this under the delusion that anyone who questions the present state of affairs must be "intimidated by women's equality" which is, of course, to miss the point entirely.
