When the US military decided that Faux News was the cable channel of choice for all bases & USO locations, the outcome was from that moment more or less inevitable. As polls show 57% of the military supports Trump, and as data indicates a significant division between officers and other ranks, we can easily imagine a scenario in which far-right personnel simply ignore (or remove) officers who don't concur with their Fox-based view of the world.

People forget how fragile civilization is, and how many times in the past it's been swept away by morons with weapons, only to lead to decades and even centuries of horror.

The only real difference between past events and our situation today is that we have a mass media entirely reliant on manufacturing endless sensationalism in order to boost the value of ad slots. We thus become the first civilization in history to commit suicide in order to enable a few large corporations to generate some transient revenue.

It's difficult to know whether one should laugh at this blatant mindlessness, or weep uncontrollably.
