While I concur that electric machines are in general the way forward provided (a) we find better battery technologies that are less environmentally damaging, and (b) we are able to increase the percentage of electricity generated by renewables so that the overall carbon footprint declines (because making all those turbines, solar panels, etc. produces lots of CO2). But we seem to be doing the usual human monotonic thing, wasting time and money on attempting to create electric aircraft. We're also blindly continuing to force people to commute to-and-from the office. Eradicating unnecessary white-collar commutes and shutting down the unnecessary office space could save around 6mbd globally at the low estimate and as much as 12mbd at the high end - far more than the entire aviation industry consumes. So instead of doing low-cost clever things we are, once more, looking for absurd technical solutions. Which is a bit sad, but apparently something we can't stop ourselves from doing.
