While it's great to see Tesla finally delivering models in vaguely meaningful numbers, it's still unclear whether there is a mass-market for EVs with still-limited range. What if Tesla is basically capturing nearly the entire EV market? If so, it's rational for the automotive majors, who sell hundreds of times Tesla's volume, not to put themselves into fiscal jeopardy by pandering to a relatively tiny market. Despite the hype, EVs account for just 2% of all vehicles sold in the USA. So while it's amusing to compare one month of Tesla sales against BMW, et al separately, the fact remains that EVs are a very tiny niche market. True believers imagine that EVs will sweep the board but... 8 years on, there's precious little sign that is happening. Range is still an issue, and even Tesla owners are confined to major urban areas. Try driving a Tesla across country....
