While sci-fi TV and movies always ends up with humanoid robots, the reality is more prosaic. Our robots are already here: the little circular carpet-cleaner, the "smart" device in your home that lets you give commands instead of pressing buttons, and the garage door opener. Nest warms your home. None of these are humanoid because none of them need to be. This will be equally true of 99% of all household and industrial robots. TV and movies are an extremely poor guide to the future.
