While the depreciation rate will be different for different vehicles, it’s generally true that the longer you keep a vehicle the better the overall return on your investment. I’ve tended to keep my vehicles for 10 years and in one case for 19 years and although later in life there are some repair costs, careful driving and significant mechanical knowledge can keep these to a bare minimum. And whereas I’ve seen people become agitated when the paint on their new vehicle is damaged, one is far more relaxed about a 10+ year old vehicle.
