Why Brexit And Trump Led To Ukraine
An analysis of why our self-inflicted dysfunction serves tyrants everywhere
Some weeks ago I wrote in an article that people who voted for Brexit and people who voted for Trump — and by extension anyone who voted for the UK Conservative Party or the US Republican Party — in no small measure enabled Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. While some readers may have regarded this as hyperbole or an intellectual step too far, this article will explain why I believe the statement is in fact correct.
Anyone with an IQ larger than their hat size, and even the most meagre grasp of reality, can immediately discount all Russian justification for the invasion of Ukraine. The government of Ukraine is not Nazi (whereas Putin’s regime is clearly fascist). Ukraine posed no threat to Russia (whereas Russia has a history of invading and smashing its neighbors). NATO has never pursued a campaign of aggressive expansion (whereas Putin declared that Russia is at war with the West as far back as 2007 and has spent hundreds of billions of dollars of oil & gas revenues on attempting to create an unstoppable military capacity). And there have been no atrocities in the Donbas (whereas Russian troops have used rape, torture, and slaughter as standard operating procedure).
