Why on Earth would we need new technology to combat the tsunami of vapid nonsense spewed out by today's social media and other forms of low-IQ infotainment when the solution is very simple, very free, and very effective: stop exposing ourselves to toxic junk. There's no legal requirement for the average person to spend any time at all on Facebook, InstaSnapApp, Twitagram, or any other valueless torrent of misinformation and pointless time-wasting. We're not forced to spend our lives hunched over our screens desperately seeking the approval of people we'll never even meet. My phone is off more hours than it's on, and it's used only for voice calls or the occasional text about matters of real importance. Medium is pretty much the only social media I consume because I can actually (sometimes) learn things from it. Most of my non-work time is spent learning things of interest (cosmology, ethnology, history, physics, etc.) or out in the mountains or at the gym or out running. I have real-world friends and don't need "friends" I've never met in real life. As such I don't get bombarded with pointless ads for things I don't need and so I feel no impulse to waste my time and money on meretricious trash. This is a far easier and cheaper solution than paying for tech to do my thinking for me.
