Why spoil a good headline with grant-grabbing potential merely because it's almost certainly wrong? As all researchers must compete for funding, the more PR the better. Even if that means specious newspaper headlines eagerly sent out into the world by credulous journalists looking to grab a few extra eyeballs for a few monetizable moments.
