Without wishing to sound unkind, a little more research into US history could disabuse the author of the notion he seems to have that the USA eventually "does the right thing." In reality, US history is littered with stupidities that were never corrected, and even the US entry into WWII was forced on the endlessly prevaricating Roosevelt by Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. Prior to that, FDR had made a career out of windy speeches about supporting Britain and then.... doing absolutely nothing whatsoever. When we add in VietNam, the Hearst-created US-Mexican war, the conquest of Hawaii, and the various neocolonial occupations of parts of central and south America so large US corporations (fruit, rubber, minerals) could benefit, we see the USA usually does the wrong thing and fails to alter course until external events force a change.
